It's Monday! What'cha Readin'? (4)

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila over at Book Journey as a way to share what we read this past week with the lovely people of the interwebs. This will also be my designated random life rant meme.

Life: I haven't done this in a while, mostly because school is gnawing away at my existence. Plus, I've only read a measly eight books this month. Eight. That is so below my normal reading rate it's not even funny...

In September I ate:

[4★] Babe in Boyland by Jody Gehrman
  • So. Freaking. Cute. Very similar to Hana Kimi, actually (if you're familiar with that).
[4★] Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
  • Creepy central. I was scared out of my pants for quite a big chunk of the book, but I couldn't put it down. There's going to be a sequel.
[3.5★] Fateful by Claudia Gray
  • It's about werewolves on the Titanic! See my review.
[3★] On the Bright Side, I'm Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God by Louise Rennison
[3★] Good Oil by Laura Buzo
  • This is probably the first Aussie book that made me go "meh." It's cute, but lacks substance.
[5★] Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
  • Easily my favorite book of September. It is just so... different and quirky. See my review!
[3.5★] Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik
  • This book is adorbs. It makes me want to go out on the street and hug random people. I'm probably reviewing this one, too, since Racquel (coughcough) threatened to end our friendship if I didn't.
[4★] Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore
  • A very fairy tale-esque and good steampunk novel. Good steampunk is hard to find.

Well, right now, I'm munching on:

Intrinsical by Lani Woodland
A Little Wanting Song by Cath Crowley

What have you been chewing on?

It's Monday! What'cha Readin'? (3)

A snippet of life: Today I randomly decided to contact my counselor and add an AP Statistics course to my schedule. Now I have 4 AP's: 2 math and 2 science. See what I mean when I say I'm the ultimate nerd?
#PleaseLetMeSurviveJuniorYear

This week I filled my brain with:

[4★] 離不開 by 鄭梓靈
  • I. Lurve. This. Author. Seriously, they should translate her romance novels so more people can read them. Tears are guaranteed. I have yet to read one of her books and not end up bawling like a baby.
[4.5★] Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta
  • The ending was just gorgeous. Would have gotten a 5★ if the beginning hadn't been so hard to get into...
[5★] Saving June by Hannah Harrington (my review)
  • Compelling, emotional. You know the set of adjectives that go with this kind of YA contemporary. See my review for more details!
[5★] Chime by Franny Billingsley
  • Give this one a try if you love eccentric fantasy novels (like me). I stayed up until 3:30 AM on Saturday night to finish this. So. Amazing. Words cannot describe my love.
Looking at this list of super high ratings, you'd think I was one of those people who just give 5★s to everything. Heh, I totally don't. Here's a handy-dandy screenshot of my rating frequency out of 1300 ratings from my Goodreads profile.

This week has just been filled with a selection of awesome books. Such a great way to end the summer.

Right now I'm reading:

Ashfall by Mike Mullin
  • Hmm, I don't know. Haven't gotten very far, but the beginning isn't as grabby as, let's say, Chime's.
I'm going to miss this week. What an awesome reading week it was...

It's Monday! What'cha Readin'? (2)

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila over at Book Journey as a way to share what we read this past week with the lovely people of the interwebs. This will also be my designated random life rant meme.

So, school's starting in a week, and I'm finally an upperclassman (Although, still the younger upperclassman)! My mind cannot comprehend this.

Anyway, this past week I've read:

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (review)
Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder
Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard (review)

I've been busily catching up on all my summer homework for AP Physics and AP Bio this past week, which explains the lack of reading going on.

But I'm currently reading:

Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta

I've tried Finnikin of the Rock before but for some reason couldn't get into it. After reading 3 other Marchetta novels (and loving those), I'm going to attempt again!

As a completely random side note: here are the two pieces I'm working on right now on flute and piano respectively. A little classical music to spice up your life, eh?

It's Monday! What'cha Readin'? (1)

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila over at Book Journey as a way to share what we read this past week with the lovely people of the interwebs. This will also be my designated random life rant meme.

I've been spending a lot more time reading than usual since my first day of Junior Year is approaching fast. I know I'll have almost no time to enjoy life once I fall under the dictatorship of teacher-trolls who hand out homework like candy. I swear: my AP Biology teacher looks like Professor Umbridge from the Harry Potter movie franchise.

Now, back on topic. This past week I've read:

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead (review)
Graffiti Moon by Catch Crowley (review)

You Against Me by Jenny Downham
Ultraviolet by R.J. Anderson (review)
The Stranger by Albert Camus
Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce

A pretty good reading week, if I do say so myself. I think I stayed up late every night to finish a different book. Book addictions aren't healthy.

And I'm currently reading:

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This book has the most delicious synopsis ever, and the pretty cover doesn't hurt, either. I've read some reviews: some love it, some hate it. A review for this will be posted once I finish reading (obviously).

So that's it. I will sorely miss the leisurely pace and manic book reading characteristic of summer break when school starts up. I really will.
